I could use a hand [NO-021]

Post by Stubble »

Howdy, can any of you help me locate an online source for document NO-21 from the Nuremberg trials? I'm putting together a thread on the camp demographics specifically related to 'sick' vs 'healthy' detainees and I need to cite it. I am unable to find it myself. It is a communication from Pohl to Himmler concerning exactly this.
If I were to guess why no t4 personnel were chosen to perform gassing that had experience with gassing, it would be because THERE WERE NONE.

Fortunately, this document is published in the NMT "Green Series." It was presented in the Pohl Trial. There are other documents right around it that are also of interest like PS-1469 and NO-1523.

NMT, Vol 5, pg. 384

It's also on the Library of Congress website but they changed up their system and files are harder to link.

As I recall with NO-021, the point of interest is that it establishes that a large part of the inmates at Birkenau were disabled or unemployed.

See Arthur Butz, Hoax of the Twentieth Century, Ch 4 for more discussion of these Pohl documents.

The NMT publication is the English translation. If you need a facsimile of the original German version, I do not have that at the ready but it should be available somewhere. I believe the Pohl trial material is completely digitized so it should be on Harvard's Nuremberg site. It didn't come up for me when I searched it but it should be in there somewhere. It might be digitized at NARA as well.

By the way, I am planning on putting together a little research guide to help people find stuff like this.

Thank you Sir! Much appreciated.

I used 3 different search engines and was checking project Avalon (yale), Harvard, the ushmm, and the library of Congress. I kept coming up null.

I believe the Harvard section said 'this document is pending digitization'.

Your linked copy of volume 5 of the nmt (green series) is better resolution than the internet archive version.

I was apparently looking in the red series initially, and so the page number didn't correspond.

I appreciate this Archie, and I'm looking forward to reading your research advice thread.

I owe you a beer.
