were there really 44,000 camps?

Post by salmonbutterfly »

That's what the Holocaust Encyclopedia says:

"Between 1933 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its allies established more than 44,000 camps and other incarceration sites (including ghettos). "

https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/ ... nazi-camps

Can this possibly be correct?

And what are the implications, if any, for the standard Holocaust narrative? For example, if the objective was to kill every single Jew, would it make sense to take the time and trouble to set up 44,000 camps?

USHMM does not provide a source for the number in the link. But they are publishing a planned seven volume encyclopedia on camps and ghettos (I-IV have been published so far). The page you linked is probably a popularized summary of that research.

One could debate what exactly constitutes a "camp." I assume with 44,000 they are using a pretty granular definition.
Remember that big camps like Dachau and Mauthausen usually had a constellation of smaller subcamps. Plus they are including ghettos.

The way that the orthodox side would spin this is that there were "stages" to the extermination. Concentration into ghettos and camps was paving the way for the extermination. But there is some disagreement among them on this. If you read someone like Dawidowicz (who wrote a popular Holocaust history in the 1970s) she thinks Hitler was planning the Holocaust for decades and all the seemingly incongruous actions were just temporary. But if you read Browning or others you will get a different picture. They will say the extermination program emerged more gradually.

This is a classic case of The Holocaust is NEVER KNOWINGLY UNDERSOLD...

In this case they have grouped together every street corner, hall, town centre, back yard, railway station and meeting point of any other description that were used as a first stage collection point and called them 'camps'. Plus of course if you were to check each of these 44,000 you would find Pinocchio's nose is in evidence in large part.

These jews never miss an opportunity to pretend they had a terrible time in their holocaust. They are very good story tellers and manipulators of truth until they get found out. Always have been and always will be. Witness the Gaza massacre of 15 ambulance and rescue crews just recently who were on a rescue mission with blues and twos in huge evidence and yet the jews come along and kill 15 people in that same convoy and claim they were the enemy and were not identifiably ambulance/rescue crews. Big oops then that film emerged showing exactly the opposite.

On the 44,000 business wasn't it just a few years back that some clown claimed that there were over 20,000 camps. Inflation has been applied clearly.
Of the four million jews under German control, six million died and five million survived!

More than enough room to house 6, 7 or 8 million Jews until the end of World War II, isn't it? ;)
