This thread should be for pointing out the obvious ignorance and mistakes of some so-called Holocaust revisionists. These mistakes are counterproductive for the Holocaust revisionist cause. We can learn not to make these same mistakes.

I made this post about Fred Leuchter some time ago (Leuchter thinks that the mainstream narrative claims that "six million were gassed"): Fred Leuchter's Ignorance of the Mainstream Narrative: viewtopic.php?t=216

Here is another one, this time by Richard Williamson:

"How on earth in a couple of years do you cremate six million corpses? It is not possible with the number of gas ovens that they had at the most in Auschwitz or anywhere."

The mainstream narrative does not claim that six million were gassed, nor that they were all cremated. And there were no "gas ovens".

Also this X-account "Uncommon Sense" has many other counterproductive and bad takes relating to Holocaust revisionism and he really seems to share the ignorance. The Holocaust revisionists have in reality so much better takes to offer.

It is an issue.

I don't mind that laymen have a false understanding to begin with. In my experience the public schooling system made no effort to inform me of what the orthodoxy claims. It impressed upon me only that there were camps, gas, cremation, and 6 million. (In fact I think if you investigate school textbooks from the last few decades you will find that they are written to give exactly this impression and in some cases they get basic facts wrong. But this is a matter for another thread.)

I also don't mind that laymen look at the numbers, do napkin math, and ask questions publically.

It becomes an issue only when it's a public figure who continues to make reckless statements after they should have familiarized themselves with what they're arguing against, or when as in this case old statements keep being reposted. Melissa Peinovich has been trying for years to correct these people with her website. Here are some recent articles from her:

This seems like an important task but so far mostly done in vain. My own efforts have convinced only one big X account to acknowledge and remove a bad meme. Typically what makes these memes go viral is the bombastic claims they make, and so posters are incentivized not to correct. There is no corrective system in place. X's Community Notes system is supposed to serve that purpose, but no one trusts it since the writers are always politically motivated and often incorrect themselves.

So the best way to fix this problem may be to produce more material that is correct. Gradually replace the bad stuff with good stuff.

This is not that egregious, imo. The general point here is valid, it's just a little garbled. It's similar to the "six million gassed" thing. Not technically the orthodox position but it fits the common understanding. When an anti-revisionist jumps in and says "bbbbbbut well actually it was only around 3 million gassed, the others died of shootings and other causes," I think those sorts of corrections usually fall flat.

Some worse ones (imo) are when there's some document that's being totally misused. I feel like unless people are willing to do the work, it's best to avoid getting into primary sources as these are quite easy to misunderstand and misinterpret.

I don't know if I see a good way to police this sort of thing. I think that our focus should simply be on producing and packaging all the best material and arguments. Maybe eventually this will trickle down to the casuals.

Williamson did and brought some attention to the paucity of the extermination argument and for me that was good enough. He may not have fully understood the claims but then again neither does Nessie given some of the nonsense he spouts.
