Just in passing from last week

Sorry for not showing any links in this topic but I have some computer issues at the moment and cannot copy links etc. New computer is en route so things can only get better.

Anyway last week there were two somewhat bizarre news stories in the media which I thought would be of some interest here.

The first was I think a 101 year old jewish chap celebrating still being alive and talking about the ELEVEN concentration camps he went through and survived...

The second story and even more bizarre was an interview with a German chappie who now resides in Spain with his Mexican wife and their children who found out his grandfather was none other than Heinrich Himmler! Yes indeedypops his grandfather was Himmler...

He went to the funeral of his grandmother about 30 years back and felt there was an odd atmosphere among the mourners. Nothing was said but he noticed a coldness towards her and a perfunctory attitude about the whole event.

Then quite recently he was watching a tv documentary about Himmler and was staggered to see his grandmother in the photos. He asked around the family to be told that she was Himmler's housekeeper and bit of fluff and gave birth to his mother in 1942 if I remember correctly. As shocks go that's a big one.

This is an older article (2023), so maybe not the same person, but this 101-year-old Jewish Holocaust survivor survived 12 camps.

Joseph Alexander, who survived 12 concentration camps during the Holocaust, will speak about his experiences at a rare event in Morgan Hill on Jan. 11.

Searching for "101 year old Jewish holocaust survivor" brings up a number of results.

I wonder who holds the current record for largest number of camps survived.

There are a lot of interesting tidbits in these survival stories: living in caves (is there a USHMM encyclopedia of caves?), fake IDs/assumed names (sometimes multiple), escaping and joining resistance movements, and so on.
