It was easy to predict that Israel would respond as they did, with a genocide. So why did Hamas do it? My wild guess is that that's exactly what Hamas wanted: to expose Israel to the world as the genocidal murderers they are. But it seems hard to fathom that they would be deliberately willing to endure so much pain. At any rate, this is just speculation, I might be completely off.

Whatever the answer might be, another question comes up almost automatically: why didn't Israel prevent it? Given the level of control they've had over Gaza for decades, it seems very hard to believe that they didn't know it was coming. This one seems easier, though: it was exactly what Israel wanted, they were dying to have an excuse to commit their genocide, and the attack of Hamas was the perfect excuse. This seems much easier to understand, but it's also speculation, so I'd like to know if there are any facts that confirm or refute it.

With this subject, you are likely going to have to do the same thing, strip it down to the Mossad establishing Hamas when the PLO went soft to undermine any attempt at a legitimate peace movement, the bullnosing of Hamas by the Mossad, the direct funding by Netanyahu's administration, the stand down, the Hannibal directive etc.
